Namaskaram Everyone,
Our August CCC event was on Sunday, 8/11/24 and featured several main slot performances, as well as a few farewell slots by our rising seniors (Vibha Sriram and Shivani Swaminathan). We also had the pleasure of inviting back some of our alumni accompanists, such as Aditi Anand, Sanika Pande, and Ranjana Rajagopalan.
We started with Nitika Pande’s soulful rendition of one of Dikshithar’s ShoDasha GaNapathi krithis “Ganapathe Mahamathe”, and we concluded with Ranjana Rajagopalan’s refreshing delivery of “Adigi Sukhamu” in madhyamavathi. The composition lineup was very traditional, featuring many gripping koraippus and korvais in nearly every performance. The event also featured 2 instrumental solos, the first of which was by Lalit Kovvuri, who performed a violin solo for the first time, and the second by Anagha Krishnakumar, who performed a flute solo.
We extend a heartfelt thanks to all of the gurus that attended this month’s event. This weekend was extremely packed, with three arangetrams squeezed into just 48 hours. It was very encouraging to see gurus Sri Hari Devanath, Smt. Kasthuri Shivakumar, Sri Mahesh Balaji, and Sri Gopi Lakshminarayanan in the front row, giving both the emcees and the performers warm smiles. We also were honored to have Vidwan Chennai Thyagarajan in the audience, gracing us with his welcoming and kind presence and blessing the performers.
Additionally, a huge thank you to all of the CCC volunteers who continue to contribute to various facets that make the event run smoothly, including the setup, video, audio, photography, magazine, PowerPoint, social media, website, and attendance teams.
It was Pramati’s and my first time emceeing for CCC, and we hope to do it again soon. The theme of our trivia questions was the Summer Edition of the Carnatic Chronicles. The magazine is beautifully assembled by our student volunteers and is a very informative and entertaining read. It contains feature-a-guru articles, enlightening write-ups about carnatic music theory, and fun word puzzles such as Strands. Be sure to check them out, as the winners of the summer Strands edition will be announced at our September Event.
If you are interested in submitting an article for the Fall edition of the Carnatic Chronicles, please fill out the interest form by August 18th.
Additionally, YSTCA is hosting performances at various senior centers around the Bay Area which all music and dance performers are encouraged to participate in. YSTCA’s annual fundraiser will be held on September 21st, whose proceeds will go toward the “Grateful Garments” non profit.
Our next event will take place on September 8, 2024 at Shirdi Sai Parivaar at 2 pm. Please join us in supporting all of the amazing performers next month!
