Namaskarams everyone, Our April Monthly event took place last Sunday, exactly a week after celebrating Sri Rama Navami. We had the pleasure of hosting six new vocalists (Shruthi, Nikhil, Indu, Shashvath, Arohan and Laya), Shashvath being the youngest performer of the day, two new melody accompanists (Rajalakshmi and Samvrith) and one new mridangist (Advith) along with several seniors who remain active in CCC despite their demanding schedules. The event commenced with the varnam “Jalajakshi” in raga Hamsadhwani and ended with a familiar RTP in Keeravani “rAmA jAnaki prEma mAmava” composed by the esteemed Akkarai sisters in Pancha nadai (chaturasram, tisram, misram, kandam, and sankeernam) kanda jathi adi thalam. We had a plethora of pieces ranging from fast paced kritis such as Raghuvamsa Sudha and Bantureethi Kolu to kritis more rich in bhava such as Pankaja Lochana in Kalyani and Ninnu Vina in Thodi. We also had the pleasure of listening to Rajeev present a Dwi-Raga (Two ragas) pallavi- “Chandra VadanA krupA sadhanA”- in ragam Mohanam and Chandrakauns composed by Sri Hari Devanath and Sri Vivek Sundararaman. We want to use this opportunity to thank all of our gurus who dedicate themselves tirelessly to nurturing their students. Their support is deeply appreciated as they are present at CCC regardless of if their students are performing or not. Thank you, Sri. Hari Devanath, Sri. Srinath Bala, Smt. Sandhya Srinath, Sri. Gopi Lakshminarayanan, Smt. Kasthuri Shivakumar, Sri. Shiv Kumar Bhat, Sri. Ravindrabharathy Sridharan, Smt. Savita Rao, Smt. Snigdha Venkatramani, Sri. Mahesh Balaji and Smt. Akila Iyer, Smt Anuradha Sundar, Smt Sowmya Subramaniam for taking time out of your day to attend the event and encourage our performers. We had several announcements throughout the event, some of which being the release of our spring edition of Carnatic Chronicles and announcing that the YSTCA youth team will be raising funds for CCC this year. In addition, we would like to thank the myriad volunteers who serve as the backbone for our CCC community. Special shoutout to slides team, audio team, video team, photo team, website team, attendance team, membership, magazine team and many other volunteers who contribute their time in many ways. Special shout out to all the youth volunteers who serve on the editorial board of our ccc magazine as well as on the executive committee of the YSTCA team. While both of us have participated as performers in CCC events before, this was our first time stepping into the role of emceeing and it was such a rewarding experience to engage with a CCC event from a new perspective! We enjoyed listening to all of the performances, giving out announcements and asking various quiz questions. A huge shoutout to Chinmai for going on call with us to train us for this event! Also, thank you so much Radha aunty for facilitating communication between Padma aunty, Chinmai, Adithi and I, and introducing us/supporting us backstage! Having spent years seeing Padma Aunty take on the role of emceeing CCC events, it felt like a very full circle moment for us to take on that role and really understand what goes on behind the scenes in order to make each CCC event timely and successful. The emcee role is truly such a significant part of audience engagement and making the event feel lively, which we are humbled to have had the opportunity to step into that role. Our next event is scheduled for May 11th, 2025, from 2 PM to 5 PM at Shirdi Sai Parivar. We warmly invite you to join us in supporting the performers and hope to see you all there!
